The Navy’s first fully gender-integrated submarine joined the fleet with changes to reflect an increase of women sailors serving in positions that were previously off limits. The biggest change? More doors for more privacy.
The Navy’s newest attack submarine, the future USS New Jersey (SSN 796) was commissioned into the fleet last weekend in a ceremony at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Middletown, New Jersey.

On September 13, 2024, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III announced the latest set of initiatives – which are part of his ongoing “Taking Care of Our People” priority – aimed at improving the well-being of military members and their families.
Titled “Our Enduring Duty to America’s Service Members and Their Families,” Austin’s latest initiatives in the memorandum include:

Establishing Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts (HCFASs) for service members.
Increasing access to Wifi.
Decreasing the cost burden associated with PCS moves.

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — The reintroduction of warrant officers in the Air Force for the first time in over 65 years will help improve the overall readiness and longevity for the teams it presents to U.S. Cyber Command, according to a top commander.
The Air Force announced in February that it was bringing the warrant officer cadre back after they were phased out in 1958. It will start with warrants for IT and cyber. Those cyber warrants will primarily help fill out the ranks of the cyber mission force.

Marine Sgt. Andrew Gomez recently received the Department of the Navy’s highest non-combat award for helping to rescue a woman from the scene of a fiery car crash in New Jersey, according to a news story from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, where Gomez is assigned.
Gomez was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal last month. He has served in the Marine Corps for more than nine years and is currently assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 49, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing.
