The Army’s most senior civilian official recently criticized a counter-drone system that soldiers have been employing for years, including in training and on patrols along the U.S.-Mexico border in recent months.
Army Secretary Dan Driscoll told soldiers during a town hall at Fort Drum, New York, this week that the Dronebuster — a handheld jammer designed to zap unmanned aerial systems out of the sky — is “fucking terrible” in his experience.

Defense giants Lockheed Martin and GE Aerospace recently completed a series of tests for an experimental engine that could reach hypersonic speeds at lower cost, the companies announced Wednesday.
Under a joint technology development effort, Lockheed and GE are developing a liquid-fueled rotating detonation ramjet system that could allow missiles to fly farther and reach speeds of at least Mach 5 — considered the threshold for hypersonic flight. Following the recent ground-based demonstrations of the technology, both firms plan to continue maturation throughout 2026, a news release stated.
A proposed law introduced in Congress this week aims to require private military housing companies to pay for expenses involving mold, including relocating families when their homes become uninhabitable. But an attorney who practices military law says the legislation lacks any teeth.

The F-16 Fighting Falcon was originally designed to be a daytime air superiority fighter, but over the decades of its service life, it has evolved into an all-weather, multi-role attack platform. The first F-16 rolled off the manufacturing line in 1976, and ultimately more than 4,500 aircraft followed it.
During the design of the F-16, some elements of other aircraft, including the F-15 and F-111, were incorporated to enhance it and “reduce its size, purchase price, maintenance costs, and weight,” according to the Air Force.

The commander of the Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District was relieved from his position Thursday in a seemingly politically charged firing that two members of Congress and a Trump administration official implied was tied to a local dispute over waterfront homes on a Missouri lake.
The Army announced Thursday the firing of Col. Patrick Caukin, a Corps of Engineers district commander. Unusually for a command relief announcement, the Army statement did not name Caukin, but a spokesperson for the Little Rock District confirmed his identity to Task & Purpose.
