An F-35 Lightning II has flown for the first time in the new Technology Refresh 3, or TR-3, configuration. TR-3 is intended to significantly upgrade the Lockheed Martin-built stealth fighter’s core processor, memory unit, and associated avionics so the platform can better support all of the new capabilities slated to equip the type under the upcoming Block 4 modernization program, which we now know includes a brand new radar.

Lockheed Martin has presented a new way of employing the company’s highly capable Patriot PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement surface-to-air missile, firing it from a Mk 41 Vertical Launch System cell. This combination would open a door to potentially adding this missile to the arsenal of dozens of current and future warships in service around the world, including with the U.S. Navy. In addition, it could allow any ground-based variant or derivative of the Mk 41, such as ones the U.S.
The Navy’s Task Force 59 recently reached full operational capability as it aims to deliver drones and artificial intelligence for advanced maritime operations in the Middle East region, Vice Adm. Brad Cooper said Tuesday.
“This is only 15 months after we formally established it and I couldn’t be prouder of our entire staff for how far we have come,” Cooper, who serves as commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and commander of the 5th Fleet, said at the Surface Navy Association’s National Symposium.
In December, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin elevated U.S. Cyber Command’s Cyber National Mission Force to a sub-unified command, which current and former officials say was an endorsement of the important role that cyber warriors play within the Department of Defense and their contribution to defending the nation from digital threats.
The CNMF — formerly one of Cybercom’s headquarters elements — is made up of 39 joint teams and thought to have the DOD’s most talented cyber operators at the cutting-edge of their profession.

Turkish Aerospace Industries says that construction of the initial prototype of Turkey’s TF-X next-generation fighter jet has been progressing steadily since the first images of the jet were released last year. This reportedly includes the installation of a more complete nose section that features faceted enclosures for what appears to be a dedicated infrared search and track sensor system, or IRST, right in front of the cockpit, and a multi-purpose electro-optical targeting system, or EOTS, underneath the forward fuselage.
