The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support has announced that it has commissioned Projekt System & Management, a joint venture between Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall, to upgrade 143 PUMA infantry fighting vehicles.
The order volume for the upgrade is €770m.

According to GlobalData’s German Armed Forces Equipment Inventory 2022, the German Armed Forces had 345 Puma Armored Personnel Carriers from procurement in 2015.

The Swedish Defence Procurement Agency (FMV) has agreed a deal to acquire 20 6×6 armoured vehicles from Finnish defence provider Patria, with the first deliveries scheduled to take place within 2023.
The Patria 6×6, which will be known as “Pansarterrängbil 300” in Swedish service, has been chosen as the platform for the common armoured vehicle system (CAVS), a collaborative effort between several European countries including Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany.

In a bid to bolster air defence in the Baltic region, Nato has brought online the Norwegian advanced surface-to-air missile system (NASAMS) after deploying more than 100 Spanish soldiers to the Lielvarde Air Base in Latvia. Latvia’s air defence capabilities will now be improved with the addition of medium-range air defence capabilities from the Spanish contingent.

In preparation for a possible future invasion by Beijing, Taiwan is buying up to 400 land-launched Harpoon missiles, according to Rupert Hammond-Chambers, the president of the U.S.-Taiwan Business Council.
Taiwan has purchased Harpoon missiles before for use on warships, but the new deal marks the first time the island has purchased mobile Harpoons that can be launched from land.
