Russian mercenaries have stormed a sprawling metallurgical plant in the far north of Bakhmut that Ukrainian forces hoped to turn into a fortress.
In one video, a man claiming to be a Ukrainian soldier describes a battle with Wagner fighters at the AZOM metallurgical factory complex. Explosions and gunshots are heard as he speaks.
“The Russians have entered the industrial complex; we are trying to drive them out. They have barricaded themselves for the night. We are trying to assault their positions,” says the anonymous soldier.

The US Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) newly unveiled fiscal year (FY) 2024 budget request includes USD315 billion for procurement and research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) – its largest sum ever for equipment modernisation.
According to budget documents released on 13 March, procurement would receive USD170 billion, up 3.8% from the FY 2023 enacted level. It would include USD61.

North Korea announced that it launched two strategic cruise missiles from a submarine in protest against the US and South Korea’s military drills.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the country’s strategic cruise missiles were launched from the Yongung 8.24 submarine in the waters off the eastern city of Sinpo on the morning of March 12.
KCNA said the cruise missiles hit the target at sea after traveling 1,500 km for about 7,563 – 7,575 seconds.
