In what may be an unprecedented move toward greater interoperability and platform sharing among the U.S. military services, the Navy is pursuing an agreement with the Air Force that would allow the services to control each other’s unmanned combat jets, according to the Navy’s director of air warfare.
The Air Force plans to spend more than $6 billion on a “collaborative combat aircraft” program and related projects over the next five years. The CCA drones are expected to serve as robotic wingmen for its next-generation stealth fighter and other manned aircraft.
On April 9 each year, the country pauses to remember former prisoners of war (POWs) – those held captive during a war. It also serves as a reminder of the inhumanity of war and the prisoners who suffer tremendously.
In 1984, a movement led by former POWs began seeking a day recognizing former Prisoners of War on April 9th each year. In 1988, Congress approved legislation and President Ronald Reagan proclaimed National Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day on April 1, 1988, through Presidential Proclamation 5788.
The country we know as Ireland was conquered by the Normans in 1169 and lived under the rule of Britain for the next 750-plus years – aside from a brief decade of independence in the 1600s. In 1921, during the War of Irish Independence, Northern Ireland was created as a place where Unionists – supporters of British rule, mostly Protestants – were dominant.
The creation of Northern Ireland was part of the British government granting independence to greater Ireland, which the country had been fighting for since 1919.
Recruitment and retention are hot topics in the community right now, and we have the military memes to prove it. Leaders now are facing challenges keeping good troops within the ranks. When troops ask for career opportunities, better living conditions and general respect are met with ridicule and apathy. The military is no longer enjoying the endless waves of volunteers since the surge and it’s caught up to the “put up or shut up” attitude that proliferated during OIF and OEF with impunity.

A video on social media recently caught our eye that depicts a somewhat precarious-looking approach to Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. From a cockpit perspective, it shows a towering cruise ship in the approach path to one of the airport’s runways, with the aircraft buzzing just above it before descending onto the landing area.

Nearly 18 months after the Taliban’s victory in Afghanistan, the White House continues to overestimate the number of Afghan troops and police who were active in the fight when President Joe Biden ordered the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from the country.
