Western officials have said that Ukrainian troops mostly survive mine explosions and artillery hits with their NATO-made equipment thanks to the “high survivability” of their armor.
It has also been revealed that Ukraine has yet to commit the bulk of its Western tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, including British-supplied Challenger IIs.
Officials echoed what The National reported earlier this week, saying that Russian forces had “put up a good resistance”, falling back before counterattacking in a well-coordinated fashion.

In something of a surprise development, a new French-made drone, the Aarok, has emerged in prototype form ahead of the Paris Air Show trade exhibition next week. The Aarok uncrewed aircraft system, or UAS, is a new addition to the medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) segment and is intended to fly intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), as well as strike missions. For the latter, it is planned to carry the French-made AASM Hammer, a precision-guided weapon with an extended standoff capacity and different warhead sizes.

The Air Force has awarded Silicon Valley-based Palantir USG three separate contracts with a total value of approximately $110 million for data-as-a-service capabilities, the Department of Defense announced late Thursday.
Broadly, a data-as-a-service platform is a cloud-based solution the specializes in data management, analytics, and other data-related capabilities.
One of the awards to Palantir was a $58 million firm-fixed-price contract for a solution for Air Force headquarters.

In yet another show of force, North Korea conducted an unannounced missile launch in direct response to the military exercise being conducted by the U.S. and South Korea.
On Thursday, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said that Pyongyang had launched 2 short-range missiles into the sea from the capital region, some 480 miles away. The missiles crashed into the ocean somewhere between the Korean peninsula and Japan.

The first Type 31 integrated combat system is on course to undergo factory acceptance testing (FAT) in the third quarter (Q3) of 2023, Thales has confirmed.
Speaking to media at Thales UK’s facilities in Templecombe, UK, Julie Martin, naval senior account director, said that delivery of the first Type 31 mission system was on schedule.

The Army is adopting a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to its ubiquitous tape test that measures body fat in soldiers. 
Approved June 12 by Army Secretary Christine Wormuth, the new test will take a single measurement from all soldiers in the same place on their body: around the waist. Previously, male soldiers were measured at the waist and neck, while female soldiers were also measured around their hips.
