With plans to spend $1.1 billion in fiscal 2023 on artificial intelligence technologies, the Department of Defense has yet to issue guidance for how to acquire capabilities, according to the Government Accountability Office.
In a report, prompted by Congress, the GAO examined how DOD acquires AI tools. The GAO noted that the Pentagon’s planned spend in 2023 on these technologies signals that the technology is a key priority for staying ahead of adversaries. Despite this, the department’s struggles in emerging technology continue, according to the congressional watchdog.

Poland received its first company of 14 M1A1 Abrams tanks at the Port of Szczecin on 28 June, the Polish Ministry of National Defence (MND) announced on its website later the same day. The Polish Armaments Agency said on its website on 28 June that three M88A2 Hercules armoured recovery vehicles were also delivered.
Two more M1A1 companies will be delivered in 2023, to be followed by a second battalion in 2024.

Israel has made a $3 billion deal with Lockheed Martin to purchase a third squadron of F-35 fighter jets, the Israeli Ministry of Defense has announced. The squadron will consist of 25 stealth jets, bringing Israel’s total number of F-35s to 75.
The new jets will be purchased using the defense aid package that Israel receives from the U.S.
Israel’s first use of the stealth jets was for combat in 2018 when Tel Aviv bombed Syria and Israel was the first foreign country to receive the U.S.
