A day after Russia threatened Black Sea shipping, Kyiv is now warning that all vessels in that body of water heading toward seaports in Russia or the territory it occupies “may be considered by Ukraine as carrying military goods with all the corresponding risks.”
The Ukrainian MoD also warned that “navigation in the areas of the northeastern part of the Black Sea and the Kerch-Yenikal Strait of Ukraine is prohibited as dangerous, from 5 a.m. [local time] on July 20. Relevant navigational information for mariners has already been published.

House Republicans voted to end diversity, equity and inclusion programs and personnel at the Pentagon, and one wonders whether the U.S. military will ever be the same.
The provision was one of a number of anti-“woke” measures in the House-passed National Defense Authorization Act that have occasioned sputtering outrage.
According to National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, there’s no way that President Joe Biden would ever sign such legislation “that would put our troops at greater risk or put our readiness at risk…”

Russian military leaders are likely to start withholding the bad news about the war in Ukraine from the Russian president because they are increasingly concerned about their own security.
That’s what Dara Massicot, a senior policy researcher at the RAND Corporation who focuses on Russia, thinks.
“In this atmosphere of suspicion and uncertainty, with leading generals disappearing and Putin quick to blame traitors, self-censorship among military high command is likely to become more prevalent,” Massicot wrote in an op-ed in the New York Times.

India is willing to modify indigenous LCA Tejas fighter jets as per Argentina’s demands. The South American country has objected to Britain’s LCA ejection seat, which Indian aviation company HAL has agreed to exchange for another foreign seat.

The Argentine Defense Minister, Jorge Enrique Taiana, is currently in India for bilateral defense cooperation and also met on Tuesday with his Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh.

Boeing Defense has released the first video of its Orca extra-large unmanned undersea vehicle, or XLUUV during at-sea testing. The Pentagon in 2019 ordered an initial batch of four of the 80-ton Orcas for the U.S. Navy, with a fifth added later that year. Since then, we saw the christening and launch of the test asset at Huntington Beach, California, in April last year, but we hadn’t previously seen the long-endurance craft underway in the water.

In the next iteration of its Global Information Dominance Experiments (GIDE), the Defense Department wants to focus on improving its joint fires network capabilities in U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and smooth out any data-sharing issues with its allies and partners.
Now led by the nascent Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO), the GIDE projects are broadly intended to test, optimize and integrate the department’s data systems with artificial intelligence.

Successful and timely passage of the National Defense Authorization Act and the defense appropriations bill for fiscal 2024 will be the two most critical items in enabling U.S. Cyber Command to address readiness issues and move into its next era of growth and maturation, according to the nominee to be the next Cybercom chief.
