A new report from the Atlantic Council argues the Department of Defense must adapt its thinking and approach to technology as a means of deterrence in order to succeed against myriad adversaries in an increasingly complex world.
The geopolitical environment has significantly changed from the Cold War and the post-9/11 counterterrorism campaigns. The current landscape involves multiple sophisticated adversaries seeking to gain regional and global supremacy by simultaneously subverting U.S. influence, the authors of the new report write.

Ukraine’s war with Russia is giving NATO countries a chance to test their advanced weaponry on a real battlefield, and they are gaining valuable insights. As a result, the Financial Times reported.
NATO members, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and France, have been providing weapons and training to Ukraine since Russia launched its invasion in February 2022.
And the types of weapons they have delivered have become increasingly advanced since the war began, with Ukraine pushing for modern tanks, air defense systems and aircraft.
According to the US Air Force, a new wave of tension has erupted in Syrian airspace, with a confrontation between a Russian Su-35 and an American MQ-9 drone.

On June 5, the Russian Su-35 performed several maneuvers that put the MQ-9 at risk. The engagement included moving close to the drone as well as intercepting its flight path.

France’s Rubis class nuclear-powered attack submarine Perle has finally returned to active service after nearly four years. Perle had begun undergoing a routine maintenance and refit cycle in 2019, but then suffered a devastating fire in 2020 that required extensive repairs. This included grafting on a ‘new’ front half taken from a decommissioned Rubis class submarine, the ex-Saphir. The result is a unique submarine that is slightly longer than a standard Rubis.

In the latest example of ‘unconventional’ improvised Ukrainian weapons, we now have video of the contraption made of half a dozen AK-74 assault rifles in action. This follows footage released two days ago which showed the same weapon, but did not depict it firing. It is now one of a variety of improvised small arms solutions — some more relevant than others — that have been pressed into service as counter-drone weapons by Ukrainian forces.
