The U.S. Air Force’s newest HH-60W Jolly Green II combat search-and-rescue (CSAR) helicopters have been operating in east Africa on their first deployment. While specific locations haven’t been disclosed, recently released Defense Department photos nonetheless show the aircraft conducting exercises in the region.

A North Korean drone last week entered a no-fly zone around the office of the South Korean president, military officials in Seoul have confirmed. The North Korean unmanned aerial vehicle was one of five that crossed the border on December 26, in the first incident of its kind in five years, which you can read about in our previous coverage here.
Army Chief Information Officer Raj Iyer will be leaving the Defense Department in the coming weeks and going back to industry, he announced in a LinkedIn post late Wednesday night.
Iyer served as the first civilian CIO since the Army divided the chief information officer and deputy chief of staff, G6, roles.
“With the completion of my contract with the Army, it is now time for me to return to industry where I can take on the next big challenge,” he wrote.

Metawave has received the Direct-to-Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the US Army to develop perception sensing solutions for off-road autonomous vehicles.
Valued at approximately $1.7m, the SBIR Phase II contract will require Metawave to address four main areas of challenge related to perception sensing for autonomous ground systems.
These areas feature adverse weather sensing, long-range sensing and reduction of the processing burden for ground vehicles, and off-road sensing.
