Army general Christopher T. Donahue, whose picture as the last man to board the final C-17 out of Afghanistan became an iconic image of the American withdrawal from the country, was nominated to be promoted to the rank of four-star general and become the commander of U.S. Army Europe-Africa, according to a Pentagon list of general officer promotions released Friday.
Donahue spent most of his field and company-grade officer years in special operations, including within several assignment’s within the Army’s secretive Delta Force.
On Nov. 12, 30 fighter pilots and airmen were recognized for missions during the largest air-to-air enemy engagement in over 50 years, according to the Air Force. The crew of one F-15E, pilot Maj. Benjamin Coffey and Fweapon systems officer Capt. Lacie Hester were awarded the nation’s third-highest valor award, the Silver Star.
With that award, Hester is the first woman in the Air Force to receive the Silver Star and the 10th woman in the Department of Defense’s history. Together, the Air Force said Coffey and Hester shot down 70 drones and three ballistic missiles.
A Navy veteran and current chaplain in the Air Force Reserve is on track to be the next secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Doug Collins to the post this week, though critics question whether Collins may move to privatize VA services.
“We must take care of our brave men and women in uniform, and Doug will be a great advocate for our Active Duty Servicemembers, Veterans, and Military Families to ensure they have the support they need,” Trump said on Thursday.
President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was investigated in 2017 for sexual assault, according to police in Monterey, California.
Monterey police confirmed Thursday that they had investigated an alleged sexual assault in October 2017 that in which Hegseth was named, according to a release from the California police department. The original investigative report was not released and the release did not discuss how Hegseth was involved in the incident.
