The U.S. Coast Guard’s payroll system suffered a data breach, with bi-weekly pay for 1,135 members of the service impacted and delayed as a result.
The Coast Guard said that it took its personnel and payroll system offline to help address security. The breach impacted service members’ direct deposit account routing information, and was discovered after unusual activity was reported. The news was first reported by journalist Marisa Kabas. Task & Purpose confirmed the breach with the Coast Guard on Friday.

Army barracks are not well-regarded within the Department of Defense. Even the Advanced Individual Training barracks at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, are not up to Air Force standards; the Inter-Service Postal Training Activity sometimes has last-minute spots open up in classes because airmen arrive and refuse to stay in the barracks. However, at Fort Bliss, Texas, the Army is leading the DoD in additive manufacturing for the construction of facilities—the first 3D-printed barracks.

My first concern is the safety of the crew. My next concern is how did this happen and the potential gaping hole this delivers to the deployment schedule.
