The Space Force released an updated version of its Data and Artificial Intelligence Strategic Action Plan Wednesday, outlining a roadmap for how the organization plans to improve its ability to share information across systems in fiscal 2025.
The document follows the Space Force’s inaugural action plan, released in 2024, which sought to guide the service in adopting modernized data and analytic capabilities underpinned by AI.
As the Defense Department anticipates the wireless networks of the future for warfighting missions, it has shifted its focus for research and development primarily to 6G wireless technologies, Marlan Macklin, deputy principal director for the Pentagon’s FutureG Office, said Wednesday.
The DOD is looking to the next-generation wireless tech to further build on the improved speeds, latency and capacity it gained with 5G and support the U.S. military’s use of new capabilities at the edge.
With that, Macklin said the Pentagon is beginning to experiment with 6G in a variety of ways.

U.S. Africa Command targeted members of the al Shabaab jihadist military and political group with airstrikes near Somalia’s capital city Mogadishu on March 15, following an urgent request from the nation’s federal government, according to American officials.
The operation was the latest in a recent surge of attacks carried out by Africom since the Trump administration took office earlier this year.

The Ram’s Head lives, but it’s a little different.
The Army revealed the new design for its forthcoming Mariner and Mountaineer Badges, the latter of which will retain the look of a Ram’s Head that has long been issued for completing a rigorous mountain warfare course in Vermont.
Although Army officials confirmed the designs had been approved for the two awards, no timeline was provided for when they would be available in Army & Air Force Exchange Service, or AAFES, stores.
The Army’s LinkedIn account posted illustrations of both badges on Tuesday.
