On March 25th, we celebrate Medal of Honor Day. This day honors the courage of America’s service members.
History of MoH Day
A service member is awarded the Medal of Honor for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.” It’s given to those who have performed acts of bravery that go above and beyond what is expected.
President Abraham Lincoln awarded the first Medals of Honor on March 25th, 1863. Since then, 3,518 medals have been awarded to 3,507 individuals. Most earn the medal posthumously during wartime.

A new Army pilot program is asking junior officers to address quality of life issues driving their peers out of the service.
In 2020, the Army started using an annual career engagement survey to better understand why its junior officer corps were leaving the service. Now, the Army wants to hear from junior officers themselves with a program modeled off a similar idea used in the Navy.
“Issues they’re going to solve are going to affect not just junior officers but all folks in the Army,” said Maj. Chris Slininger, the current director of AJOC.

Troops on active duty have had the book thrown at them for security breaches far less severe than texting strike plans to a journalist.
Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, has reported that he was inadvertently invited to join a group chat on the Signal messaging app by Michael Waltz, President Donald Trump’s national security advisor, in which Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared detailed operational information about planned strikes in Yemen two hours before they happened.
The simple answer is that the Marines make it look effortless – but it’s also more than that.
Body bearers, as the name implies, are U.S. troops specially tasked to carry the remains of their services’ honored dead to their final resting place. For the Marine Corps body bearers at Arlington National Cemetery, it’s an honor they’re willing to put their rest of their lives on hold for. For those Marines charged with holding up the standard of “flawless funerals” it’s kind of a requirement.

North Korean soldiers have played an important role in Russia’s war against Ukraine. Most recently, 12,000 North Korean soldiers helped Russia claw back Ukrainian advances on Russian territory in Kursk. In late February, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called on his military to learn from “real combat experience” — widely seen as a reference to the Russo-Ukrainian War. We asked four experts to identify important lessons that North Korea’s military has been learning from its deployments in support of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Read more below.
Katie Sutton has been nominated to serve as assistant secretary of defense for cyber policy, according to a notice posted on Congress.gov
Sutton — who is currently chief technology advisor to the commander and director of Pentagon operations at U.S. Cyber Command and had been a professional staff member on the Senate Armed Services Committee focused on cyber — will be the second official to hold this position, which was created by Congress in the fiscal 2023 annual defense policy bill.
That position was established due to the growing role of cyber in society and the U.S. military.
