As the nation’s first military academy, West Point prepares young men and women to become officers in the U.S. Army.
There’s a unique, free university in the US where students graduate not just with degrees but as officers of the US Army.
Instructed by Congress to train 4,400 cadets a year and up there in terms of academic rigour and student success with the likes of Harvard and Yale, West Point produces 1,000 second lieutenants a year.
In exchange for a free education at West Point, graduates are required to serve five years in the US Army and an additional three years in the reserves.
